DEADLINE: Indigenous Student Investigative Journalism Workshop

Event Date:
January 30, 2026

The Indigenous Journalists Association (IJA), in partnership with Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) and the Oklahoma Media Center (OMC), is extending the Indigenous Student Investigative Journalism Workshop application deadline to Jan. 30, 2026.

The workshop is a new training opportunity for Indigenous students interested in strengthening their investigative and data journalism skills. The day-and-a-half workshop will take place Feb. 12–13, 2026, in Oklahoma City. Participants will gain hands-on experience in investigative techniques, data analysis and storytelling, while connecting with working journalists and mentors in the field.

A limited number of fellowships is available to support student participation. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and the deadline is Jan. 30 or until funding runs out, whichever comes first.

The MacArthur Foundation has generously provided support for student fellowships.

This program is open to:

  • Indigenous students enrolled at any higher education institution in the United States
  • Students of all backgrounds attending Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISIs), Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian-Serving Institutions (ANNHs) and Native American-Serving Nontribal Institutions (NASNTIs)
