Marine Minerals and the Media: An EJN Webinar for Journalists on Deep-Sea Mining
Marine Minerals and the Media: A Webinar for Journalists on Deep-Sea Mining, October 6, 2026 (North America) / October 7, 2026 (Asia-Pacific)
As interest in deep-sea mining accelerates globally, journalists face the challenge of reporting on a highly technical and often difficult-to-access industry. Deep-sea mining sits at the intersection of ocean science, environmental governance, technology, geopolitics and community rights, making accurate, informed reporting more important than ever.
During this webinar, EJN's panel will explore how reporters can investigate and cover an industry that largely operates out of public view, while examining the potential implications for marine ecosystems and coastal communities. The discussion will draw on expertise in deep-sea ecology, ocean policy, science communication and Pacific affairs.

- Andrew D. Thaler, CEO, Blackbeard Biologic: Science and Environmental Advisors
