"Poultry Plants Consistently Violate Salmonella Standards, Report Finds"

"Major brands — including Perdue, Butterball, Foster Farms, Koch Foods, Costco (Lincoln Premium Poultry), and Mary’s (Pitman Farms) — have been in violation of the standards for multiple years running, according to a new report."

"Several of the country’s largest chicken and turkey companies operate processing plants that routinely violate the federal government’s safety standards for salmonella contamination, according to a new analysis released by the animal welfare organization Farm Forward.

These include major companies that supply grocers, schools, and emergency food assistance programs, exposing the public to a potentially deadly illness, despite U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations.

“Major brands, including Perdue, Butterball, Foster Farms, Costco, and Mary’s, are chronically contaminated and in some cases have been failing contamination tests every month for the last five years,” said Andrew deCoriolis, Farm Forward’s executive director. “And the USDA is doing nothing about it. In some cases, it’s worse. They know these products are contaminated and are buying them for public nutrition assistance programs like school lunches, which is shocking and inexcusable.”"
