Twice yearly, the International Women’s Media Foundation offers grants supporting journalism produced by and about women. The grants, averaging $5,000 USD, are open to professional journalists with three or more years' experience. Next deadline is April 21, 2019.

This annual award goes to professional photographers whose unerring powers of observation capture and express the relationship between man and the environment in the most graphic form. Includes a category for future professional photographers who are 28 years old or younger. Cash and camera prizes. Deadline is Apr 1.

The Maria Moors Cabot Prizes are awarded to journalists who, in their work and throughout their careers, have contributed to promoting greater inter-American understanding in the Americas. $5,000 honorarium. Nomination deadline is Mar 17, 2025.

The BBVA Foundation of Spain's award recognizes the work of professionals in any country that have contributed exceptionally to improving public understanding and awareness of ecological issues, especially in the areas of biodiversity conservation and climate change. Cash prize of 100,000 euros. Deadline is May 30, 2025.

Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing BIB awards honor excellence in business journalism. Categories include General Excellence, Energy/Sustainability/Climate Change & Health/Science (Story Topics) and Student Journalism. 2025 deadlines: Jan 6 (early bird); Jan 27 (regular); Jan 31 (late).

These annual awards honor the best media coverage of the global south — stories that break through stereotypes, change the narrative and connect people across cultures. Awards are offered in many categories, including Environmental Reporting and Press Freedom. Deadline is Feb 9, 2026.

This award, sponsored by the Knight Science Journalism program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, honors local and regional reporting from the US on science, public health, technology or the environment. Winner receives $10,000 and a ceremony hosted by KSJ. No entry fee. Deadline: Jan 31, 2026.

The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) annually awards $5,000 reporting grants to women or nonbinary journalists who carry forward Swedish journalist Kim Wall's legacy of covering important, underreported stories from around the world. Deadline: Dec 7, 2025.

This annual award celebrates writing that exemplifies literary excellence on the subject of physical and biological sciences. The winner receives a cash award of $10,000 and is honored at the PEN Literary Awards. Deadline: Aug 20, 2025.
