Journalismfund Europe's Invisible Life program is funding cross-border investigations into farm animal welfare. The grant is open to teams of independent journalists and news outlets of two or more members. Deadline: Oct. 29. 

Are you an experienced staff or independent journalist who focuses on natural science, mathematics or computer science? Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS) is accepting applications for its journalist-in-residence program. Deadline: Oct. 15

The Penlight Prize, presented by Freedom of the Press Foundation, honors exemplary public-records-based news stories made available to readers free of charge with a $25,000 prize. DEADLINE EXTENDED TO SEPT. 15.

Tarbell Center for AI Journalism is accepting applications for original reporting on AI and its impacts. Tarbell offers grants of $1,000–$20,000 to support original reporting published in established outlets, whether from freelancers or staff. Applications for this round close July 12, 2026.

The Eugene C. Pulliam Fellowship for Public Service Journalism awards up to $100,000 to help mid-career journalists broaden their knowledge through study, research and travel — and produce impactful journalism that serves the public.
